Many teachers experience burnout due to the overwhelming demands of their roles, with lesson planning being a significant contributor. This qualitative study explores the potential of GenAI-created lesson plans to alleviate this burden in the case of high school teachers. GenAI tools can help educators develop comprehensive lesson plans, potentially reducing stress, and saving time. The study was carried out in New York’s Lower East Side. MagicSchool.ai was chosen among other possible AI tools to carry out the study. The study’s participants implemented three GenAI-created lesson plans over the course of 3 weeks. They evaluated the effectiveness of these lessons using a rubric, and provided detailed feedback. Following the implementation, participants were interviewed to assess whether the GenAI-created plans effectively met their teaching responsibilities. The findings indicate that the tool shows promise in empowering teachers and streamlining the lesson planning process. AI tools could be instrumental in helping teachers balance their professional duties, reduce burnout, and improve overall productivity. By identifying the benefits of AI in lesson planning, this research offers insights into how schools might increasingly integrate AI technology to support educators.
