Sustainable Strategies for Access and Utilization of Antenatal Care Services in Flood-Prone Regions of India
摘要
Environmental hazard has a major effect on healthcare services particularly in antenatal care services, posing a number of difficulties that impact the accessibility and utilization of care for expectant mothers and new moms. Natural disasters like flooding and antenatal care are closely related, which is a serious problem that calls for all-encompassing disaster planning and response plans. The purpose of the current study is to examine the relationship between flood events and antenatal care services among Indian women. The current study utilized both the Vulnerability Atlas of India (2019) along the NFHS-5 (2019–21) data. More than 4 ANC visits have been taken as outcome variables, whereas flood-induced vulnerability and socio-demographic variables have been run as control variables. The bivariate analysis and multivariate analysis have been used for the statistical analysis. The bivariate results show that ANC utilization (≥4 ANC visits) and the occurrence of floods are significantly correlated. Flood predominantly affects the access and utilization of ANC. The result of binary logistic regression shows that the likelihood of receiving at least 4 ANC visits during pregnancy is 12% higher among the women of non-flood-prone areas than the women of flood-prone areas of India. The significant association between flood and receiving ≥ 4 ANC visits stated the crucial strategies for disaster readiness and ANC, mainly in the flood-prone areas across India. This study provides valuable takeaways for promoting proper access and utilization of antenatal care services during the pregnancy period in the flood-prone areas, which may lead to a decrease of maternal as well as infant mortality across the nation.
