Drawing on Black feminist theories, three doctoral students engage in kitchen table talks to situate their lived experiences of being Black Muslim mothers in academia. By interweaving everyday talk with theoretical considerations, we examine: (1) How is the motherhood and scholarship praxis of Black Muslim mothers (in)formed in graduate school? and (2) How do Black Muslim mothers navigate their roles as mothers and graduate students at predominantly white institutions? We found that our praxis is (in)formed, in part, through resistance and characterized by hope. This collaborative auto-ethnographic study expands discourse around mothering, Black feminist theories, and spirituality in academia.
