This chapter aims to describe and analyse, within a theoretical framework, a Collaborative Online International Learning project (COIL) developed between three European universities, Padova (Italy), Aveiro (Portugal) and Gdansk (Poland), dedicated to the study and analysis of children’s picturebooks about the child’s relationship with the city, in response to the increasing demand for hybrid learning environments. Entitled “Shaping sustainable urban landscapes through picturebooks”, this project used different distance learning methods to enable students from different institutions and countries to work together, considering their backgrounds and previous education and training. The project sought to articulate a theoretical dimension with a highly practical one, linked to the exploration of picturebooks and the development of a video in group work. It also aimed to answer relevant questions regarding the literary representation of environmental sustainability, social justice, ideologies, and the relationship between humans and nature, including in the urban landscape, as well as the impact of picturebooks in conveying sustainable values and practices. The project identified the potential and challenges of hybrid learning by integrating technological platforms such as Zoom, Padlet, and online quizzes, incorporating advanced digital skills through video recording in student projects and exploring picturebooks. This strategy increased engagement, digital literacy, creativity, and cooperation improved self-assessment, and reinforced differentiated learning and collaborative work across nations, languages, and cultures, fostering global educational collaboration.

摘要
