Conclusion
摘要
Racialization is an organizing principle of platform capitalism. The economic model of the platforms requires a large and available labour force. Thus, racialized men form a reserve army of workers essential to the deployment of Uber. Attracted by the promise of independence and high pay, this subproletariat has entered the profession of Uber driver, seeing it as an opportunity to improve their condition. Drivers hopes and aspirations were quickly dashed. The economic dependence of these “super-exploited” on the platform actually makes them a docile workforce, forced to respond to its demands at the risk of losing their main source of income at any moment. They face a deterioration in their working conditions and pay. Uber drivers are hybrid workers, having all the disadvantages of both employment statuses without any of the benefits.
