The chapter analyzes the implications of personalized medicine for a range of stakeholders. Specifically, we analyze the challenges associated with evaluating personalized medical strategies while focusing on the limitations of the methodologies in use today, such as whether and how traditional constructs like pharmaco-economics and health technology assessments still apply. We also explore the technological solutions available within “standard” medicine, discussing the possible economic implications of personalized medicine and the different remuneration mechanisms that are currently used to compensate technology and service providers. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the organizational implications of adopting a personalized medical approach for healthcare systems as well as individual healthcare facilities. The corresponding analysis should help readers fully appreciate the perspectives of the various stakeholders in personalized medicine while also helping to encourage healthcare systems to adopt this “new” medicine.
