Grading systems for TED facilitate communication between healthcare professionals, help in clinical decision making, and monitor disease progress and treatment responses for clinical and research purposes. Several grading systems exist for TED, designed to score activity, severity or both. The most widely used are the Clinical Activity Score (CAS) for activity grading, and the VISA system, which grades activity and severity. Each has relative strengths and weaknesses, which are discussed in this chapter.
