Recommendations for the Multidisciplinary Management of TED
摘要
Thyroid eye disease is a manifestation of a multi-system autoimmune disease, for which a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach to management offers proven benefits. Advantages include earlier diagnosis, smooth referral pathways, collaborative approaches to treatment, and greater efficiency of research projects that all add up to better patient care. Helpful guidelines for TED MDTs have been developed by EUGOGO. Typical MDTs include core members from ophthalmology and endocrinology, with other potential members including radiologists, rheumatologists, immunologists, radiation oncologists, orthoptists, specialist nurses and other head and neck specialist surgeons, depending on local needs and skill mix. MDTs may also improve patient experience by enabling care with fewer outpatient appointments and by providing cohesive communication from and between the different specialists involved.
