Selenium and Dietary Modification in TED
摘要
Dietary modification, and particularly selenium, have become a major facet in the care of patients with thyroid eye disease (TED) over the last decade. Selenium is an important micronutrient with roles in thyroid hormone regulation and modulation of inflammation. It is now established (Marcocci C, Kahaly GJ, Krassas GE, Bartalena L, Prummel M, Stahl M. N Engl J Med 364:1920-1931, 2011) that selenium supplementation can improve outcomes in those patients with mild TED. Other dietary modifications, such as supplementation with vitamin D and zinc, have a small evidence base for such patients.
