At modern engineering enterprises, within the framework of lean manufacturing technologies, not only material resources, quality, time and productivity have become valuable, but also safety, delivery, inventory and capacity. To achieve maximum results and effective process management, it is necessary to eliminate any type of activity that consumes resources but does not create value for the consumer. Among the known seven types of losses in production, we will highlight excess inventories. Inventories are not just tangible assets in the warehouses of an enterprise; they are a critical element that ensures the continuity and efficiency of its operation. They serve as a buffer that mitigates market fluctuations and production risks. It is proper inventory management that allows enterprises to quickly respond to changing conditions of supply and demand, optimizing their costs and accelerating the turnover of assets. From the point of view of lean manufacturing, storing excess inventory in a warehouse is a type of waste that can lead to increased storage costs and reduce the turnover of the company’s working capital.
