MiragesMirages(*) are perhaps the most often occurring optical phenomena in the atmosphere, although they are rarely consciously perceived. Mirages are based on inhomogeneities of the refractive index in the atmosphere. They offer fascinating, sometimes even spectacular views, and provide many suggestions to study the underlying physics.
