In this chapter, the focus shifts to how historical records have long been shaped by power, from colonial archives to Western essentialist philosophies. These biases resurface in AI whenever legacy datasets reinforce structures that exclude marginalized voices. The chapter contrasts Western essentialism—where knowledge is deemed objective and fixed—with Nagarjunian ontology, which views truth as contextual and relational. It frames AI systems as inheritors of these tensions, illustrating how even “neutral” models carry entrenched biases from the broader tapestry of colonial and post-colonial history.
