Intelligent Physical Rehabilitation Platform Based on Virtual Reality Using the PANGEA Agent Architecture

Technology-assisted physical rehabilitation has become an emerging field that takes advantage of advances in virtual reality and artificial intelligence to offer more effective, immersive and personalised therapies. This paper presents the design and development of an innovative physical rehabilitation platform that integrates the Kat VR immersive locomotion system with an organisation-based agent architecture, implemented on the PANGEA framework. The proposed platform has been designed specifically for this study, enabling the dynamic creation and management of physical rehabilitation activities in virtual environments. The use of agent organisations facilitates the coordination, adaptation and monitoring of therapeutic exercises, enabling an interactive experience adapted to the capabilities and needs of the patient. The architecture takes advantage of Pangea’s capabilities to model intelligent agents, distribute responsibilities in complex environments and re-spond to the user’s context in real time. This proposal represents a significant advance in the application of emerging technologies to the clinical environment, providing a flexible, extensible and user-centred tool for the improvement of physical rehabilitation processes.
