Smart Parking in Smart Cities: A Real-Time Solution Using Augmented Reality and IoT Sensors

Urban parking challenges have intensified with vehicle growth, necessitating smarter solutions. This paper presents a mobile system integrating Augmented Reality (AR) and IoT sensors to efficiently guide drivers to available spaces. The system comprises an IoT sensor network for real-time monitoring, a backend for data processing, and an AR-enhanced mobile application. A key innovation is its resilience to connectivity issues via local-remote database synchronization. Experimental results show 99% sensor data accuracy, 85 ms response times, and 90% location accuracy. The system reduced parking search times by 47% and parking-related traffic by 35% during peak hours. User surveys indicated 82% approval of the AR interface. Beyond technical performance, our solution mitigates congestion, fuel consumption, and driver stress, contributing to smart city development and urban sustainability.
