Perception of Consumers Towards Charging Infrastructure for Electric Two-Wheelers in Tamil Nadu
摘要
Purpose: Electric two-wheelers are considered as one of the sustainable alternatives for conventional two-wheelers, where there is a need for wider adoption of the same concerning rising pollution issues and advantage of cost effectiveness as the primary factors impacting purchase of the same. Charging infrastructure plays a crucial role in the promotion of electric vehicles, which is significant in influencing the driving range for the consumers using the same. Driving range anxiety which is considered as one of the drawbacks of electric vehicles can be resolved by installing more charging stations. There is a need for adequate and advanced charging infrastructure to improve hassle free driving range for consumers and encourage sustainable development of automobile industry. In this context, it is necessary to study the perception of consumers towards charging infrastructure for wider adoption of electric two-wheelers in Tamil Nadu. Design/Methodology/Approach: Primary data were collected from 300 respondents using electric two-wheelers in Tamil Nadu through Interview Schedule. The study area is divided into five zones using Quota sampling method. Secondary data were collected from journals, Accelerated e-Mobility Revolution for India’s Transportation (e-AMRIT), Press Information Bureau (PIB), records from Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu and other websites. Findings: As per the study, One-way MANOVA shows that there is no significant difference between male and female respondents with regard to lack of adequate charging infrastructure perceived as a hindrance while purchasing their electric two-wheelers and lack of charging infrastructure as a hindrance while using their electric two-wheelers. Linear Regression shows that, there is a linear relationship between place at which electric two-wheelers are charged and perception of the consumers towards availability of sufficient charging stations for electric two-wheelers. Originality/Value: The study shows that, more support may be provided by manufacturers of electric vehicles and Governments of India and Tamil Nadu to encourage installation of electric vehicles, which in turn may help in adoption of electric two-wheelers by consumers across Tamil Nadu.
