This introductory chapter focuses on Internet of Things (IoT) products and their relation to the Cloud. We explore a broad spectrum of IoT industries to identify basic building blocks of IoT devices and systems. The hardware, networks, and data associated with IoT are spotlighted throughout the chapter. The benefits of incorporating Cloud applications with IoT products are also explained. The chapter concludes with IoT case studies taken from real-world applications to showcase the potential that IoT and Cloud have for delivering high value propositions in the form of IoT products.
