Deprivation of Response
摘要
Focusing on a series of systemic failures, this chapter explores how justice-involved individuals often experience a “deprivation of response” from health and social systems. It identifies multiple layers of neglect—including insufficient screening, a lack of timely intervention, inadequate clinical treatment options and gender-insensitive services. These gaps not only delay recovery but compound trauma and elevate the risk of further offending. The chapter critiques current justice and mental health practices for failing to act on known needs, particularly for high-risk individuals. It calls for earlier, more coordinated, and trauma-informed responses, arguing that globally, the traditional justice systems that employ more reactive approaches, often perpetuate harm rather than mitigate against it.
