Serving as a direct intervention to true crime fandom studies, this chapter interrupts the field's boundaries to examine the shock site theYNC.com through a rhetorical analysis of videos, comments, and site layout. Uncovering the extreme manifestations of morbid curiosity at play interwoven with the ‘totemization’ of victims recorded, the chapter investigates how users of the website suspend marginalised bodies within the wake of oppressive pasts to maintain a phantasmagoric narrative towards future rhetoric. In an amalgamation of different scholarships, I converge true crime studies, gore studies, and affectivity studies to analyse the digital community on theYNC, examining the linguistic variables at play in the circulation of hateful pedagogy and their confabulation of ‘Othered’ figures as discussed in the comment sections. These online perceptions of marginalised bodies extend to reaffirming bigotry, therefore creating cyclical toxicity espoused by users until the extreme schools of thought are normalised sitewide.
