The primary goal of this chapter is an analysis of a case study of Sunderland City Centre Detached Youth Project (SCCDYP 1990–2008, which later became known as Sunderland music workshops 2008–2023) considered through the lens of Christopher Small’s (1998) concept Musicking. We will establish the argument that viewing music as a verb, an activity, a relational music activity, rather than a noun, a thing, offers a paradigm shift, and a richer understanding of the profound effects of music in young people’s lives.
