This chapter focuses on the 2019 electoral contest, the last electoral contest of the Metapolitefsi period so far and the first elections after the memoranda. It was the first election following the economic crisis of the 2010s, which essentially transformed the political landscape in Greece, disrupting bipartisanship and bringing new powerful political forces to the forefront, such as SYRIZA. Mr. Eftychis Vardoulakis analyzes the strategies of the parties from the 2015 elections onwards, covering the third memorandum, SYRIZA’s governance, and the leadership change in New Democracy. He also examines the key figures, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras, and their roles in the pre-election campaign.
