The article briefly presents wind-assisted ship propulsion systems that underline the Flettner rotors. The authors analyzed the wind regime wind features in the Black Sea along the Constanta—Batumi route for 2024 using 26 selected waypoints. Then, based on a semi-fictitious scenario, the authors set conditions for a simulated voyage in the Black Sea basin with a ship using Flettner rotors in a realistic wind environment and found the values of fuel savings and emissions avoided. In conclusion, the paper deduces that using such devices can lead to a fair reduction in fuel consumption, contributing to the sustainability of maritime transport. The work reminds us of some other operational and technological measures to improve the efficiency of Flettner rotors and enhance fuel consumption reduction.

摘要
