Solitary rectal ulcer (SRU) is a rare condition characterized by an abnormal patch of rectal or rectosigmoid epithelium. Unfortunately, its name is misleading as there may or may not be an ulcer, and if there is, it may or may not be solitary, and may not even necessarily be in the rectum. This chapter provides some thoughts about the etiology of SRU and discusses options for treatment.
