In this chapter we critically examine the potential impact of new AI structures on higher education enabled by platformisation. Various actors become intermediaries with variable agency over internal higher education processes and relationships, creating new AI-enabled power asymmetries with interactions and connectivity mediated by in-platform rules. Through critical exploration, we argue that a range of factors (economic, social, technological, pedagogical) influence the remediation of agency through the new structures AI yields. We problematise the un/desirability of AI solutions as well as their potential to produce a two-tiered system of human- or techno-centric higher education. We conclude that there is a risk of AI and higher education pedagogies converging to produce artificial pedagogies, and develop suggestions for mediating higher education to support meaningful learning and engagement of pedagogical and intellectual value for all stakeholders.

摘要
