The rapid advancement of technology in the construction industry requires the incorporation of new Artificial Intelligence tools, such as generative AI, as traditional educational methods struggle to keep up with evolving industry demands. AI technologies, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), have the potential to transform construction education and training through interactive, scenario-based modules that simulate real-world challenges, enhancing decision-making and problem-solving skills. The study explores the benefits of integrating LLMs into construction education to improve learning and skill development. A comprehensive literature review and empirical findings from a quantitative analysis, based on data collected through Google Forms from construction students, educators, and industry practitioners in the city of Johannesburg, were used. Respondents were selected via convenience sampling, and data were analysed to reach conclusions. Findings reveal that LLMs enhance construction education by ensuring personalised learning, specialized content and curriculum generation, research writing and communication assistance, automated grading and feedback, enhanced learning engagement and collaboration, and easy access to information for problem-solving through natural language processing. While the study focuses on the South African educational system and may not fully reflect global trends, it stresses the need for ongoing research to stay relevant. The study concludes that LLMs present significant potential for advancing construction education and further establishing a foundation for leveraging AI to enhance industry practices and competitiveness.

摘要
