Artificial intelligence transformation sweeping across industries worldwide has not spared the public sector, particularly in developing economies like South Africa. This research looks into the current state of artificial intelligence on organisational efficiency in South Africa and specifically at the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) in South Africa. Digitalisation as a branch of artificial intelligence seeks to improve organizational efficiency as this is a core mandate in the growth and development of the organization in its service delivery. This research seeks to investigate the insights into the current state of artificial intelligence at the NHBRC which is guided by a scoping review of systematic literature exploring artificial intelligence adoption trends at the National Home Builders Registration Council in South Africa. The PRISMA process was adopted. Articles from Scopus, WoS, GoogleScholar and government was consulted to identify key factors influencing digitalization. Vos Viewer will further provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis regarding research trends that highlight the importance of the research study. Findings indicate that NHBRC struggles with the integration of machine learning into existing processes due to lack of infrastructure, data privacy and ethical concerns. Data privacy and ethical concerns have also emerged as significant hurdles. The need for robust data governance frameworks to ensure compliance with evolving privacy regulations while leveraging organisational efficiency potential. Findings illustrate the manner in which digitalization has shaped practices within NHBRC; in terms of efficient service delivery; and recommends strategies for further adoption and implementation.
