Building Synergies: A Multidisciplinary Fusion of BIM Education in the Evolving Built Environment
摘要
This systematic literature review aims to explore the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) education across the disciplines of architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC). It really emphasizes the transformative shift from traditional educational practices and its essential role in modernizing the Quantity Surveying (QS) profession. A structured and comprehensive approach was employed to identify, select, and critically appraise relevant research. This review synthesizes findings from a variety of academic articles, case studies, and surveys from global institutions. The methodology included defining inclusion and exclusion criteria, systematically searching multiple databases, and using a standardized process for data extraction and analysis. The study reveals that while BIM education has significantly improved technical skills such as 3D modeling and data management, it also enhances collaborative skills and interdisciplinary understanding essential for modern construction projects. These evolutionary aspects highlight the transition from conventional QS roles to more integrated and technologically adept positions within the industry. Major challenges identified include curriculum inflexibility, technological disparities, and resistance to change among educators and professionals. The systematic approach ensures a comprehensive review, but the study is limited by the availability of current and relevant research in the rapidly evolving field of BIM education. For educators, technologists, and policymakers, the review suggests adopting innovative teaching methods such as simulation-based learning and fostering industry collaborations to provide hands-on experience and real-world problem-solving scenarios. These methods can mitigate challenges like curriculum inflexibility and technological disparities, enhancing the practical application of BIM education. The review emphasizes that a well-rounded BIM education disrupts traditional QS roles by preparing graduates to navigate the evolving crossroads of the QS profession. It leads to smarter, sustainable building practices, meeting immediate industry needs and aligning with broader educational goals of fostering adaptability and forward-thinking in the built environment.
