Use of Virtual Reality in Industrial Engineering: A Case Study

This paper explores the implementation of a virtual training system using the Ella Platform within the context of industrial engineering education. The system allows students to design and simulate entire work environments, enabling them to test and optimize their designs through immersive and non-immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences. By tracking key metrics such as training durations, penalties, and real-time progress, the platform provides valuable insights into operational processes and workflow optimization. Students interact with the system using VR controllers, gaining practical experience in material handling, forklift operations, and workspace design. This innovative approach bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enhancing the development of students’ academic projects and preparing them for real-world industrial challenges. The study demonstrates the potential of virtual reality in industrial engineering education and highlights the effectiveness of virtual training systems in fostering deeper understanding and improving decision-making in complex work environments.
