Police Use of Force in Trinidad and Tobago

This chapter looks at police use of force in Trinidad and Tobago. It specifically focuses on the number of civilians killed and wounded by law enforcement officers as well as the number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Deaths and injuries which occurred are limited to those caused by firearms. This chapter covers the period from 2018 to 2022. Data for the current study were derived from several sources including the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), which is within the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the Police Complaints Authority (PCA), the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian and the Daily Express. The results are discussed to provide a deeper understanding of the use of deadly force by law enforcement officers in Trinidad and Tobago.
