Suction-assisted lipectomy, often referred to as liposuction, is a safe and effective procedure for removal of excess subcutaneous fat in most parts of the body. In this chapter, anatomy, zones of adherence and perioperative management are reviewed. The role of tumescent wetting solutions and general technique is discussed. Specific techniques covered include power-, water-, ultrasound-, laser-, and radiofrequency-assisted liposuction. Postoperative fluid management is reviewed. Complications include lidocaine toxicity, fluid overload, contour deformity, skin injury, infection, and venous thromboembolism.
