Biodiversity refers to the vast array of life on our planet, delivering essential services that boost human health and well-being. Ecosystems, comprising living organisms and their physical environment, interact to provide numerous vital benefits to humans. However, the functioning of biodiversity models and ecosystem service models tends to be separate from each other. Integrating them creates optimized pathways needed for sustainable environment management. This chapter provides a detailed analysis on need for this integration and analyzes the strategies available for making integration possible. This chapter looks into the ideas and applications of biodiversity and the ecosystem services, and explains why it is important to integrate them. In addition, the chapter explores the need for integration by examining biodiversity and ecosystem service losses with recent case studies conducted in Amazon rainforest and Mekong Delta wetlands. The comprehensive analysis of the integration approaches and its challenges helps the future studies to create pathways for managing the environmental resources optimally. This chapter outlines the significance of this integration and analyzes strategies introduced in previous works to achieve to integrate ecosystem and the biodiversity services. In addition, a detailed investigation of the biodiversity and ecosystem services provides detailed understanding how these components interact to maintain the health of ecosystems and meet the needs of people. This holistic perspective improves the capacity to identify key areas in ecosystems and preserves them before degradation. This also helps in developing adaptive environmental policies based on science for improving sustainable management in various socio-ecological environments.

摘要
