Ethnicity and Fashion: Relationships? A Bibliometric Mapping
摘要
This chapter provides a critical and up-to-date overview of the scholarly literature on the impact of ethnicity on fashion, analysing the intersections of design, communication, and business. It begins with an oversight of publications indexed on Scopus. Then, with an interdisciplinary approach, it focuses on contributions from two areas: “Arts and Humanities” and “Business, Management and Accounting”. The evolution of production over time, geographic distribution, document types, and interdisciplinary connections are presented. This is followed by tabular and graphical elaborations obtained with VOSviewer, a software specialized in bibliometric analysis, regarding most cited papers, influential authors and their collaborations, keywords used with their co-occurrence map, and most popular bibliographic sources. The main topics covered by the most important authors are critically illustrated with some initial reflections. In doing so, the main theories and the most popular interpretative models are highlighted, tracing the future directions towards the study of ethnicity in fashion and highlighting the gaps. Ethnic fashion today suffers the effects of globalization, digitization and directions tending towards sustainability: it can no longer be considered an identity manifestation but a complex phenomenon that generates considerable tensions between authenticity, innovation, and risks of ungrateful commodification towards original stimuli.
