Prehistory of High-Altitude Landscape in Montenegro: Mount Sinjajevina Case Study
摘要
Montenegrin high-altitude landscapes have often been regarded as isolated and generally marginal environments. Our knowledge and understanding of prehistoric activity in zones of High Karst Unit is still limited. Recent archaeological research has identified the highest altitude archaeological sites in Montenegro close to 2,000 m a.s.l. A group of previously unknown burial mounds and hillforts has been discovered using remote sensing techniques. Chronological dating of archaeological sites at the mountain Sinjajevina cannot be provided without archaeological excavation. When burial mounds at Sinjajevina were erected remains an open question. New archaeological investigations in high-altitude zones shed new light on human capacity to survive in extreme and isolated environments, but on the other hand tell us about prehistoric origins of transhumant pastoralism in Montenegro.
