We give a brief introduction to the K-theory of spaces called A-theory. This theory was initialized by Waldhausen. Its benefit is that it allows us to study interesting spaces of geometric structures such as groups of diffeomorphisms or homeomorphism of manifolds, pseudoisotopy spaces, spaces of h-cobordisms, and Whitehead spaces. It is an instance of a very successful strategy in topology to extend algebraic notions to spaces.
