In this chapter we introduce negativeK-groups. They are designed such that the Bass-Heller-Swan decomposition and the long exact sequence of a pullback of rings and of a two-sided ideal extend beyond K0. We give a geometric interpretation of negative K-groups of group rings in terms of bounded h-cobordisms.
