Buddha Versus Hanuman in an Existential Dilemma: From Autoethnographic Experience to the Development of a Theoretical Model on Artistic Creation
摘要
This article aims to present a lived experience in the role of a visual artist during the creation of an artwork. This creative process, in its materialization, revealed itself as an experiment in internal dialogicality between the artist and their work—which independently established the paths of choices made throughout its conception. Thus, this is a deliberative autoethnography (Tshuchimoto, Human Arenas 4(2):1–9, 2021) and arts-based research (Barone and Eisner, Arts based research. Sage, 2012), where some mechanisms and phenomena present in the artistic creation process are presented through concepts from Cultural Semiotic Psychology, such as meaning-making, blockage, resistance, and Gegenstand (Valsiner, Culture in minds and societies: Foundations of cultural psychology. Sage, 2007; An invitation to cultural psychology. Sage, 2014). Deep reflection on this autoethnographic experience resulted in the construction of a theoretical model that seeks to describe how the process of artistic creation and production occurs in its material, dialogical, and cognitive nature.
