Remote access technologies integrated with educational robotics environments provide students with revolutionary opportunities for robotics system engagement through cross-border, hands-on learning experiences. This paper presents pilot projects for remote access of a marine robot located in Germany from students in Germany, Croatia, Pakistan, and Kazakhstan. Accessing robotics facilities located in a different place may be the only opportunity for many students to operate robots - and in particular - marine robots - due to the challenges of having the right facilities in-situ. The feedback from the students showed that the access barrier to technology was reduced. Students were enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn more about and operate marine robots. Remote access has the potential to unlock new educational opportunities, both in the formal degree-granting offering as well as in the lifelong learning, certificate education realm.
