In the mid-1970s, questions of sustainability, environmental protection (as it was then called), and respectful interaction with nature began to enter public consciousness, stirring many young people. Among other influences, this awakening was inspired by reading Rachel Carson's Silent Spring (1962). Naturally, for all mindful young people, the question arose: What do the looming crises of failure in relation to nature and the environment mean for one's own behaviour and sense of responsibility? What we knew with certainty was that we had to act. But in which field?
