Banks promote themselves with high interest rates and security for the investment funds of potential clients—and with low interest rates and quality advice for financing projects through bank loans. But what do we really know about these institutions? Very little. They present themselves as large, outwardly mirrored black boxes: no matter the angle, one only ever sees a polished image reflecting the clients’ own interests. The box seems to return the gaze—but in a more flattering light. Its inner workings remain inaccessible.
