If you zoom out, you will see that we are living in the middle of an interesting era that began around 1989, at the end of the last century, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing, Václav Havel becoming president of Czechoslovakia, Nelson Mandela being released from prison and Al Gore writing his book Earth in the Balance. Gore spoke not only of a growing climate problem but also of the pollution of the atmosphere as the pollution of “Buddha's breath.”
