When the Bio-Foundation Switzerland was established by Dr Rainer Bächi in 1987, a love for the Earth, nature and humanity drove the development and realisation of its specific ideas. Anthroposophy, with its expansive perspective on the world and humanity, provided the founder of the Bio-Foundation with both inner and outer guidance. Rainer Bächi was a cosmopolitan figure, untouched by national egoisms. His concerns were for the welfare of all people, regardless of the regions or parts of the world in which they lived. With this perspective, he sought to ensure that small farmers in developing regions could access markets in Europe and North America for their organic produce.
