This paper describes a new approach for classifying different cancer types relies on type-3 fuzzy logic (T3FL) and fractal dimension (FD). Previous works have shown that FD produces different values for different types of cancer. In addition, the FD value has been shown experimentally to increase as cancer evolves from Stage I to Stages II and III. Based on these facts, a T3FL system is used to contain expert knowledge in cancer classification by using the FD values. In this case, T3FL enables uncertainty representation in medical classification. Results with pancreatic cancer data illustrates the approach effectiveness.

摘要

This paper describes a new approach for classifying different cancer types relies on type-3 fuzzy logic (T3FL) and fractal dimension (FD). Previous works have shown that FD produces different values for different types of cancer. In addition, the FD value has been shown experimentally to increase as cancer evolves from Stage I to Stages II and III. Based on these facts, a T3FL system is used to contain expert knowledge in cancer classification by using the FD values. In this case, T3FL enables uncertainty representation in medical classification. Results with pancreatic cancer data illustrates the approach effectiveness.
