The penultimate chapter of the book builds on the interdisciplinary perspectives of the previous chapters to explore whether disturbances in the the sleep and dreaming system (including in its constituent components) may contribute to the development of some schizophrenia spectrum states in Homo sapiens. It introduces a gestalt framework that examines overall implications of disruptions in the system’s function, structure, load or capacity. The chapter concludes with some philosophical reflections arising from the argument.
