AfriNEAD conferences rotate between South Africa/Cape Town, where the AfriNEAD secretariat is based, and other countries in Africa. When the AfriNEAD objectives were formulated, the idea was that two conferences would be hosted in South Africa consecutively and the other three in the other African countries consecutively. The focus of the conference would be a topical research issue that is impacting the lives of persons with disabilities at that time. The goal of the conferences was to address how research evidence can be put into advocacy, policy and rehabilitation practice, identifying facilitators and barriers, and drawing inputs from multiple stakeholders. The plan was to invite researchers and practitioners involved in disability research to the conference, to present their work to policymakers and other relevant stakeholders and challenge them to think-through the steps necessary to realize the rights of persons with disabilities in the region. Each conference produced a unique and stimulating collection of papers which have been published in special issues of suitable international journals. This chapter presents an outline on how AfriNEAD conferences were organized including the thematic areas derived from the CRPD that guided AfriNEAD conference research areas. The chapter also presents resolutions and recommendations that emerged from the conferences held from 2009 to 2023. The chapter ends with a conclusion.
