Exploring ChatGPT Adoption Among Teacher Educators in Higher Education: An Extended UTAUT2 Approach
摘要
Technology adoption among individuals is driven by behavioural intention (BI), which is influenced by multiple factors. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology2 (UTAUT2) is a framework for understanding the determinants of BI towards acceptance and usage of technology. With ChatGPT being one of the most widely adopted OpenAI tools among Indians, this study employed the UTAUT2 model to examine its adoption among teacher educators (TEs) of higher education institutions. The findings revealed that Effort Expectancy was the most significant factor in facilitating TEs’ BI to adopt ChatGPT, followed by Performance Expectancy. Credibility, price value, and hedonic motivation also played a substantial role in influencing TEs’ adoption behaviour. Furthermore, the study found that Social Influence had a notable impact on TEs’ BI in adopting ChatGPT, whereas Facilitating Conditions contributed minimally to their adoption decisions. This study is significant as it utilised the said model to explore the BI of Indian higher education educators towards ChatGPT. This is an understudied demographic segment in the Indian context, making the findings insightful.
