Knowledge and Logic
摘要
Developing the view that philosophy is acquisition of knowledge also requires answering the question: What is the role of logic in knowledge? Answering this question depends on what logic is. The current dominant view is that there is a single paradigm of logic, logic as justification, consisting in mathematical logic. This chapter, however, argues that this view is not valid, because mathematical logic is inadequate as a means of justification. An alternative to the paradigm of logic as justification is the paradigm of logic as discovery. According to it, logic is a method of discovery and is the analytic method. The latter is adequate as a method of discovery, and so also as a means of justification because in the analytic method justification is part of discovery.
