Freedom to design (FD) comes from an ability to add material without using design-specific tools. Fast process (FP) arises because design-specific tools are not used. Both are due to the absence of design-specific tools. Then, why should there be two advantages? FD means AM can make a complex part, which conventional manufacturing (CM) can and cannot. If AM cannot make it fast, AM does not have the advantage of being fast, but it still has an advantage that it can make. Thus, the absence of FP does not mean the absence of FD. It implies that both are required.
