In a slurry deposition process, where a bed is not formed by the slurry, the slurry is deposited from a nozzle. Use of slurry helps make ceramic or metal components. If slurry is not used, there are no other ways but melting to make big metal components. Melting a high melting point material requires extra effort. For example, it requires control of microstructure development and crack mitigation, devices for melting, and dedicated systems for heat management—these all increase cost as well. There are expensive systems based on powder or wire, requiring l-beams or e-beams. Melting low melting point materials such as a tin alloy or an aluminum alloy is not so difficult. There are processes available for depositing these materials, but parts made are weak and cannot be a substitute for high-strength parts. Hence, these processes are incapable, as they cannot be used for processing high melting point materials. Slurry deposition is a solution to these problems—it is neither as difficult as a deposition process related to high melting point materials nor as incapable as a process related to low melting point materials.
