Powder bed fusion (PBF) is taken as an example to represent AM because it makes the most complex metallic parts AM can make. Therefore, how fast PBF can make a complex part shows how fast AM can make it. AM is used for all materials, but why is ceramic not taken? Because AM makes metal parts better than ceramic parts. Why not plastics? Because AM makes most high-value products in metals rather than in plastics, although the amount of plastics used is far more than that of metals.
