Learning Behavior in the Context of Educational Gamification
摘要
The present approach analyzes the impact of a gamified educational environment on learning behavior and examines the changes that individuals experience when they engage in a gamified environment. In today’s society, gamification drivers are used as tools to redefine learning environments, tapping into people’s natural inclinations for competition and recognition and reshaping learner behavior. Gamification stimulates curiosity, is a source of reward, and enables simulations. It transforms the entire educational process and turns learning tasks into challenging adventures. To keep learners motivated and increase their engagement with the task, gamification design facilitates real-time customization and provides a progressive approach to individual development. The ability to customize their learning experience by selecting tasks, choosing specific skills to solve a problem, and unlocking different levels of difficulty based on task completion gives students the opportunity to experience different levels of autonomy. Considered as a trend or a methodological strategy, gamification generates particular psychological experiences linked to the well-being of the beneficiaries. This theoretical approach aims to show both the positive outcomes and the possible negative effects of using gamification features in the educational process on learning behavior. Our aim is to provide a context for understanding the possible directions of educational interventions to promote some expected behaviors while the learner is immersed in the world of game.
