An Introduction to Gamification for Inclusive Twenty-First-Century Education
摘要
This chapter aims to define the key concepts that will be discussed throughout the book, namely gamification in higher education in relation to inclusion. In this introduction, the main concepts discussed in this book, namely gamification, higher education, students with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and inclusion, are framed theoretically, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in today’s academic educational context. It addresses the terms game, gamification, disability, and special educational needs and provides arguments for the use of gamification to build an inclusive educational environment in education at all levels, but particularly in higher education. The theoretical approach draws on recent national and international practices and recommendations on the requirements for building an inclusive, supportive educational environment to ensure quality education for all. The proposed recommendations relate to how higher education institutions can overcome the challenges associated with ensuring inclusive education in terms of regulatory procedures, financial issues, and staff training requirements. This introductory chapter promotes inclusive education in the context of the challenges of the twenty-first century.
